Fun in Ithaca
Located on beautiful Cayuga Lake, the town of Ithaca is home to more than 18,000 residents and is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College. Everyone here is really nice and willing to help you. For example, the Ithaca Branch of the American Association of University Women will invite first-year international graduate student for free luncheon and other activities. And many friends I made in Chinese church will provide all kinds of help if they could. Because the town of Ithaca is small, I obtained all kinds of opportunity to get to know people here, which is really fun to me.
Fun in Cornell
International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) is the department university-wide in charge of all international students. Every Thursday afternoon, in Big Red Barn, there will be coffee hour for all international students. I have made friends there and enjoyed several wonderful afternoon with fruits, biscuits and coffee.
Autumn is the most beautiful season in Cornell. Color is the most cherish thing for the campus. Walking around the campus after meals to see the beautiful scenery is what I really recommend to those who will come here in the future. Autumn is short and the famous freezing winter comes in November. However, as for me, it is not that freezing because inside the building it is warm. Unlike Shanghai, it is chill everywhere.
Fun in law school
Cornell law school is a top-tier law school with distinguished and accessible facility and a warm and friendly environment. As an international law school student, I had more connections with LLM students, especially more with those Chinese students. We often studied together and had meals together not only in Chinese restaurant but also in someone’s house to hold parties just for fun or to celebrate someone’s birthday. The one perfect party I have had is the fall ball, which is a tradition for law school open for all law school students. Although I am not a good dancer, the whole party thing made me in good mood.
As for the courses, I have taken three courses: law and ethics of business practice, International commercial arbitration and bankruptcy. Classes for all these three courses are intensive and interesting. Assignments of reading are the most typical thing for US law school. You cannot answer the questions professors pointed to you if reading assignments are not completed yesterday. And cases are interesting and complex, which means that review and brief is really necessary right after completion and before classes in case that the professor will let you brief the whole case. For international arbitration, principles are important and for bankruptcy, statutes and regulations are essential for understanding the cases. Statues can provide you with the entire structure of bankruptcy. In the final examination, Professor Einsenberg let us write down a complete reorganization plan in one hour, which is rather a challenge for me. Because it needs a good command of the structure of Chapter 11 of Bankruptcy Code and the detailed articles as well.
