  The University of Helsinki is ranked among the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world, and the Faculty of Law is a leading Nordic provider of legal education and strives to be an inspiring environment for top researchers and students. The Faculty of Law is now orienting to cooperation with leading Chinese law schools and welcomes excellent applicants for its international master and doctoral programmes from Chinese partner institutions.

   1. International Master’s Degree Programme
  The Faculty of Law offers a two-year International Master’s Degree Programme in International Business Law and Public International Law. The research-oriented master?s programme aims to develop students’ analytical skills and powers of synthesis in addition to increase their knowledge and understanding of their chosen disciplines. The goal is to train students to become internationally oriented professionals who will be well-qualified for legal careers in international legal practice like international organizations, law firms, corporate legal departments and legal academia.

  Benefiting from the Finnish welfare higher education system, the International Master’s Degree programme remains tuition-free at the moment.

  The application period for the intake of autumn 2012 starts on November 21, 2011 and closes on January 31, 2012 (16:15/4:15 pm GMT +2).

   2. Doctoral degree
  In accordance with the core objectives of the University, research and research education have priority in the strategic objectives of the Faculty of Law. The Faculty has been a powerful centre of doctoral training in Finland and probably the most important centre in Nordic countries in this respect. Increasing number of doctoral students has been recruited from abroad.

  The degree of Doctor of Laws is the primary third-cycle degree for students striving towards a research career and other persons in need of research education. The estimated duration of the doctoral degree is four years of full-time study.

  The doctoral degree can be completed in any of the disciplines offered at the faculty. In addition to individual research work and the related discipline-specific studies, the doctoral degree includes studies in the philosophy of science, research ethics and activities in the international scientific community as well as courses preparing students for various expert positions. These studies must support the work on the dissertation and provide the knowledge and skills necessary for scholarly work and other demanding expert tasks.

  Scholarship for doctoral studies: in accordance with the agreement between the Helsinki University and the China Scholarship Council, applicants may get support from the China Scholarship Council for financial support for 48 months at the maximum. The Faculty of Law of the University of Helsinki shall endorse the accepted students to apply for scholarship from the China Scholarship Council special programme for the University of Helsinki nominees.
